History.
1940 the 1st generation
As one of the oldest law firms in Geneva – over 75 years in business – we have a long history of providing truly independent legal services.
Our law firm was created by Jean-Claude Jacquemoud in the early 1940s. Jean-Claude was Chairman of the Cour de Cassation of Geneva and Bâtonnier of the Ordre des Avocats (Chairman of the Bar Association of Geneva). Jean-Claude was without any doubt the quintessence of the independent lawyer, without any link to any lobby. He only had the best interests of his clients at heart. He transmitted this ethic to the next generations of lawyers running our firm. Jean-Claude’s practice focused on commercial law. He developed strong ties with international law firms, understanding very early that the practice of law is a global matter.
1980 the 2nd generation
Jean-Claude’s sons joined the firm in the 1980s after having studied and practiced law in the USA.
Christian, his oldest son, was one of the first Swiss nationals to take the New York bar exam, after completing his Master in Jurisprudence at NYU.
Jean-Pierre, who remains to date the youngest member ever elected to the Geneva Parliament (at 20 years old), obtained his Master in Jurisprudence at the University of Texas (Austin). He moved to San Francisco to practice law at Pillsbury, Madison & Sutro (now Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP) and then to New York, where he passed the New York bar exam in 1979 and worked for Sullivan & Cromwell. Upon returning to Switzerland, Jean-Pierre entered into a law partnership with Guy Stanislas.
Guy was a lecturer in the commercial law department of the University of Geneva for six years while writing his PhD on the sale and purchase agreement (Walther Hug Award). Prior to joining Jean-Pierre, he worked for many years at several Geneva law firms. Guy is also a substitute judge at the Geneva Cour de Justice.
2013 the 3rd generation
The third generation has joined Jacquemoud Stanislas in 2013.
Philippe, after completing his LL.M. at Columbia University, spent seven years in Zurich working for two large law firms (Baker & McKenzie and Homburger). Philippe also took his Swiss bar exam in Zurich, in addition to the New York bar exam. He joined his father Jean-Pierre in 2013, with Marc Balavoine.
Marc studied in Geneva before completing his LL.M. at NYU and passing the New York bar exam. He then took the Swiss bar and worked for two large Swiss law firms in Geneva (BMG and Schellenberg Wittmer) until 2013.
New partner
Guillaume Barrazone joined Jacquemoud Stanislas on January 2021.
After working as an associate for Lenz & Staehelin in Geneva, Guillaume graduated from Columbia University, New York (LL.M. 2011). He then joined Schellenberg Wittmer where he practiced until November 2012.
Guillaume was Mayor of Geneva in 2016-2017.
He was an elected member of the Swiss National Council (Swiss Parliament) from January 2013 to December 2019.
Guillaume was admitted to the Geneva Bar in 2009.
